5 things you must know before buying a drone

Have you decided that you want to buy a drone? I’m happy to hear that!
On this page you will find 5 important things you must know before buying one.

A drone can be a very exciting thing to play with no matter how old you are. The trend has literally exploded over the last years since they were launched for personal use. However you can’t just run off to the closest store and buy the first one your eyes fall upon. Trust me. Wouldn’t it be disappointing if you bought a drone for hundreds of dollars just to realize the drone is nothing like you imagined? It sure would! There are many factors you must be aware of in order to choose the right one for you, and that’s what I’m going to tell you all about in this article. After you’ve read this article you will have all information you need in order to buy your first drone – one that actually fits your needs and desires.
After that being said, let’s jump into it!

5 things you must know before buying a drone

1. Photography or Racing drone?

The first thing you should know is that there are two sides of the same coin when talking about drones. First we have the Photography Drones which are the ones that people normally are most familiar with. These kinds of drones are mainly built for stability, ease of use and often features High Definition (HD) and Ultra High Definition (UHD) cameras that can capture absolutely stunning footages. The Photography Drones are nowadays used on professional filmsets all around the world simply because of their amazing cameras, features and maneuverability.

If you want a drone that is easy to fly, gives you tons of different features to play around with while at the same time creating extraordinary pictures and videos, a photography drone is the way to go! Now depending on how much you pay there will be a significantly difference in the quality and features of the drone, but let’s have a look on that in the next section.

The second type of drones are what we call the Racing Drones. Now this is something you normally don’t want to buy unless you actually plan on racing with your drone or simply want a super fast and agile one. They’re usually much smaller than the Photography Drones and also lack many features. Instead, they’re built purely for speed, agility and toughness and is a must-have for the person who wants to engage in the Drone Racing Community. 2. What’s your budget?

How much money you’re willing to pay is a very important factor when buying a drone. Choosing between a drone that costs less than $100 and a drone that costs $900 is like choosing between a rusty old car and the newest sports car. I’m not saying that the cheaper drones are really that bad but what I mean is that your drone will be of much greater quality if you spend more money on it.

However there are actually quite a few cheap drones on the market that’s proven to be terrific regarding the quality you get for its low price. These drones are more aimed at beginners and I recommend that you buy one of the cheaper ones before you go for the more advanced ones.

3. What’s your purpose?

There’s a large variety of drones out there all featuring different systems and qualities. Before buying a drone it’s important that you know why you actually want to buy one. Do you want a drone capable of capturing breathtaking footages in 4K in order to record your traveling and later on show off to your friends and family? Or do you rather want a drone that has the longest control range/battery time possible? Or maybe a miniature drone that can be used both indoors and outdoors? It all comes down to what YOU want.

Just because some of the more expensive drones will perform great in all different areas doesn’t mean that all drones will. Therefore it’s important that you know why you’re actually buying a drone so that when you do, you’ll hopefully fall in love with it and not the other way around.

4. Fly with safety in mind

Drones are a whole lot of fun but they also come with responsibilities. It can’t be stressed how important it is to operate your drone with safety in mind. You’re the pilot and it’s your job to make sure that no one gets hurt. The last thing you want to happen is crashing into someone or someone’s property which could result in injuries or at least an expensive fine for you.

Some drones are equipped with Obstacle Avoidance systems but you should not rely entirely on these. I recommend that you always fly your drone in desolated areas, at least until you’ve learnt to master your drone.

5. Last but not least – Have fun!

This might seem like a lot of information and you might feel a little discouraged but don’t be! After all, drones are super fun to use and thanks to the high technology systems the majority are very easy to fly.

What I personally like the most about drones are the FPV (First Person View) Goggle Glasses systems that some of them features. You will literally become the eyes of the drone when you put on the goggles and I can promise you that it’s a thrilling new experience. You obviously have to spend more money in order to get a drone that provides you with this but in my opinion it’s totally worth it! If your friends also get one of their own you can now fly with each other way up in the skies watching your own city from a birds view, which is something entirely else. However don’t forget the 4th section of this article!
